Dolton animal hospital employee accused of cruelty

An employee of a suburban Chicago veterinary hospital has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

Fifty-nine-year-old Sharon Cargile of Chicago was charged in a grand jury indictment last month with three counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

The Cook County Sheriff's Animal Crimes Unit responded to a complaint in September and found four dead dogs and other animals in poor condition at the facility in south suburban Dolton.

Three of the dogs had died of chronic starvation.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office says Cargile was arrested earlier this month in Salina, Kansas, when police there learned of her warrants during a traffic stop.

On Monday, Cargile was ordered held on $10,000 bond during a hearing at the Markham Courthouse.

It was not immediately clear if she already had an attorney.
