Burglaries reported to unlocked cars in Naperville

Several vehicles parked in south Naperville over the weekend had their contents stolen or rummaged through as burglars hit the area Friday night and early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Naperville police received five reports of burglaries to vehicles parked in either the 2600 or 2400 block of Newport Drive, the 500 block of Mayfair Lane or the 2500 block of Brockton Circle, and all of them apparently took place between 8 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Bill Davis said. Items stolen from the cars include clothing, a box of candy, eyeglasses and a checkbook.

A witness who lives on the 2400 block of Newport Drive reported seeing two white male suspects, both about 6 feet tall, walking up to cars and trying to open the doors about 1 a.m. Saturday. Police checked the area for people matching the description, but didn't find the suspects, Davis said.

All five vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked, and Davis said the burglaries appear to be related. They all took place a few blocks northeast of Knoch Knolls Park in a neighborhood that's east of Plainfield/Naperville Road and north of 95th Street.

The burglaries remain under investigation.
