Gold coin dropped in Arlington Hts. Salvation Army kettle

The Salvation Army announced Tuesday that a 1901 Liberty Heard $10 Eagle gold piece with an estimated value of approximately $850 was dropped in a red kettle at the Jewel-Osco store 122 N. Vail Ave. in Arlington Heights Saturday evening.

The discovery brings the total number of gold coins found this season to 16 with a cumulative value of more than $5,000.

The Salvation Army reported that it has received a little more than $7 million in donations so far this season toward its Red Kettle Campaign, or 40 percent of its $15 million goal.
