New bishop appointed to lead Vermont Catholics

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Auxiliary Bishop of Indianapolis has been appointed the 10th Bishop of Burlington in Vermont.

The Most Rev. Christopher James Coyne was appointed Monday and will be formally installed as pastor of Vermont's 118,000 Catholics on Jan. 29.

A Boston native, Coyne is known as a leader in the Catholic Church's "digital revolution," keeping a dedicated daily presence on both Facebook and Twitter and producing a regular podcast. He previously served as pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Westwood, Massachusetts, and became a bishop in Indianapolis in 2011.

Coyne will be introduced at the Diocesan offices in South Burlington on Monday.
