Lake Shore Drive reopens after accident

A section of Chicago's iconic Lake Shore Drive that was closed after a wrong-way car crash left one person dead and several others injured has reopened.

Chicago police spokeswoman Janel Sedevic says the three-car accident happened on Monday before 3 a.m. A driver was heading south in the northbound lanes when his car struck two other vehicles. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Others were taken to area hospitals.

A portion of Lake Shore Drive heading north on the city's South Side was closed for hours during the morning commute.

Around 7:30 a.m. police said the section had reopened. Some buses along the roadway that hugs Lake Michigan were temporarily rerouted.

Police are investigating.
