Police say DNA links man to 1994 Chicago slaying

Cold case detectives in Chicago have used DNA evidence to identify and arrest a suspect in a 20-year-old murder case.

The Chicago Police Department says in a news release that 45-year-old David Ramirez-Martinez, of Boulder, Colorado, was arrested Thursday.

He is accused of stabbing a 39-year-old woman in May 1994. The victim was found in her home in the North Side Lakeview neighborhood.

The police statement says detectives linked Ramirez-Martinez to the killing through a DNA match.

He's charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear at a bond hearing Saturday in Chicago.

It was not immediately clear whether he already had an attorney.
