Police search for shooter in Montgomery
Montgomery police are looking for a person who shot and killed a 28-year-old Chicago man last night. Police responded about 6 p.m. to the intersection of Montgomery Road and Fourth Street for a report of shots fired and a man down. When they arrived, they found a victim, later identified as Jesus Garcia Jr., lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Full story.
Metropolis hires new director
The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights has hired a veteran of Chicago's Second City as its next executive director. Joe Keefe, who also has written and produced for a number of theatrical and television productions, will take the helm at Metropolis on Jan. 1, officials announced last night. Full story.
St. Charles students expelled for shutting down Dist. 303 network
Two St. Charles East High School students were expelled after they successfully shut down District 303's network for the better part of a month in an ongoing denial-of-service attack. They were expelled for the rest of the year, though they will be able to re-enroll next year. Full story.
Quinn wants 2016 special election for comptroller
Gov. Pat Quinn is calling for a special session of the General Assembly Jan. 8 to set up a special election in 2016 for comptroller, after the death of Judy Baar Topinka. "Nobody but Judy Baar Topinka was elected to do this job," Quinn said in a statement. "That's why it's so important that voters have the soonest possible opportunity to elect their comptroller. North Barrington mom pledges to streak for the environment
North Barrington resident Lynn Hasselberger has vowed to go streaking down Michigan Avenue if her new environmentally themed online radio network raises $50,000 by mid-January. She said the fundraising money is to get the online radio network running. "I am just a normal, 'girl next door' environmental advocate, and the closest I've been to naked is my bikini." Trestman on benching Cutler: We need a spark
Bears coach Marc Trestman said it was a "difficult" decision to bench quarterback Jay Cutler, but he also predicted that things could get better for him. "I know this is not a good time for Jay," Trestman said. "But I've seen careers revived in situations like this, and I think that will happen with Jay." Butler carries Bulls past Knicks
With Derrick Rose and Carmelo Anthony sitting on the bench for their respective teams, the Bulls defeated the New York Knicks last night 103-97.
