We're a society crippled by caffeine

When walking down the street or through the halls of a school, you'll see several caffeinated drinks in people's hands. Nowadays people seem solely dependent on coffee and other caffeinated drinks to function on a daily basis, and this doesn't seem like a positive trend.

It's rare to meet someone who doesn't partake in this consumption, be it soda, energy drinks, tea or coffee, it all adds up to a society crippled by caffeine. As a whole, Americans consume about 400 million cups of coffee a day, no small feat.

Around 75 percent of teenagers consume caffeinated drinks on a daily basis, and the healthiness of this is questionable, as it is not certain how much caffeine is too much and its effects on the developing bodies of youth. While in modest consumption it can be a harmless vice, it can have varying results for people regardless.

According to a study by AARP, caffeine can be worrisome for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, and osteoporosis. In excess, it can leave you feeling unstable and filled with anxiety. While it sounds easy to stop before that point, because of caffeine's' addictive nature it can be difficult. Those hooked and trying to quit can bring on headaches and fatigue for days at a time.

Admittedly, caffeinated drinks aren't evil and there are worse habits to have. Still it's usually a good idea to be conscientious of any sort of consumption and to understand what you're putting in your body, especially those of addicting nature.
