Man convicted of sex crimes sentenced to 15 years

A former St. Charles resident was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

Ramiro Fonseca, 43, of Pharr, Texas, was convicted in September on two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual abuse, according to a news release.

Between July 2009 and February 2011, Fonseca sexually assaulted the victim multiple times at his St. Charles home, according to evidence presented by prosecutors.

Fonseca and the victim, who was underage at the time of the assaults, are related.

Fonseca received six years in prison for each sexual assault count and three years for the sexual abuse count and must also register for life as a sex offender.

He must serve at least 85 percent of each of the six-year terms, and Fonseca is eligible for day-to-day sentencing on the three-year term. He gets credit for at least 336 days served in the Kane County jail.
