St. Charles police: Man stole packages from doorsteps

A St. Charles man who police say stole packages from the doorsteps of as many as 15 different people was arrested last week, police said.

On Wednesday, police were called to Blackhawk Trail for a suspicious person stealing packages from door steps, police said in a news release.

The caller told police that he approached the man, who then fled in a black Jeep, striking a mailbox and post and brushing against the caller, police said.

Shortly after, police say they located the vehicle and arrested a 21-year-old St. Charles man on battery charges. They also found several pieces of mail and items in plastic bags that did not belong to him, police said.

The Daily Herald is not naming the man because theft charges against him are still pending. Anyone who feels they may have also been a victim should call St. Charles police at (630) 377-4435.
