Warren D121 board meets:

Officials at Warren Township High School District 121 in Gurnee expect a large turnout for a board meeting on Tuesday in the wake of a school board member's comment about not wanting a gay superintendent. Superintendent Mary Perry Bates said hundreds of visitors are anticipated because there has been an uproar against the comments from teachers, students, equal-right activists and others. The session starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Almond Road junior-senior campus, 34090 Almond Road, Gurnee. The meeting will be in the cafeteria, which will have a sound system and microphones for public comment time. It'll be the first meeting since board member Liz Biondi commented on not wanting a gay superintendent during a special meeting Dec. 2, while elected officials provided feedback to consultants on what criteria should be established for a new schools chief.
