Fenton principal to be new Kaneland superintendent

The principal of Fenton High School will be the next superintendent of the Kaneland school district.

The school board chose Todd Leden, who also is associate superintendent of Fenton District 100, Monday night.

Leden, 47, will start the job full-time July 1. He will attend events and meet with district officials before then, but when interviewing for the position, he said he wanted to honor his commitment to Fenton through the end of the fiscal year.

"I'm currently at a high school district and one of the things I liked about that is we get to see the finished product, we get to see high school students. I'm also looking forward to being able to see the development of students all the way from K through 12," Leden said.

"Dr. Leden comes highly recommended to be the superintendent of the Kaneland district. His background is rich with high-quality, challenging experiences which make him the ideal candidate to lead district initiatives and drive improvements while building on the excellent foundation of the Kaneland school community," board President Cheryl Krauispe said.

Leden has a doctorate in education from Aurora University and master's degrees in educational leadership and athletic administration.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was the head girls basketball coach at Geneva High School, where he also taught physical education and served for a time as an interim athletic director.

Leden lives in Geneva.

He replaces Jeff Schuler, who quit in August to become superintendent of Wheaton Warrenville District 200.

He will be paid a base salary of $175,000. Other contract details will be posted on the district's website, kaneland.org, Tuesday.
