Gingerbread Man proves elusive at Lake Co. museum

The Gingerbread Man was up to his old tricks Wednesday as young children rushed around the Lake County Discovery Museum in an effort to catch him.

Mostly, however, they just found another clue to his whereabouts, part of a scavenger hunt that highlighted the Gingerbread Bash hosted by the Wauconda-area museum's Small Discoveries program.

"Schools do something like this so I decided to do it with the museum," museum educator Seleena Kuester said. "Children see different parts of the museum while learning the legend of the Gingerbread Man. It's always fun to see the kids' reactions."

The kids finally did catch up with the elusive Gingerbread Man, then enjoyed other activities like etching a scratchboard gingerbread house, listening to the story "The Gingerbread Man," eating gingerbread cookies and making a gingerbread man ornament.

"We love these programs," Lisa Beake said as she ate cookies with her twin 3-year-old daughters, Hanna and Hope. "The scavenger hunt was something different and it was fun hunting for the Gingerbread Man."
