Donors help all-girls robotics team at Elk Grove

Local businesses donated $1,000 to Elk Grove High School's all-female robotics team, helping them purchase materials to compete in a Northwest Suburban High School District 214-sponsored competition.

Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and Diemasters Mfg. Inc. provided the funding earlier this month. The money will be used to purchase new parts to build a robot, such as a new servo weapon motor, transceivers and receivers.

Most of the girls on the team are students in Elk Grove's all-girls Intro to Engineering Design course, which began this school year as a way to encourage more female students to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The competition takes place at Elk Grove High School on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.
