Arlington Hts. police graduates 20th Citizen Police Academy class

The Arlington Heights Police Department welcomed 21 new Citizen Police Academy graduates with a fall class graduation ceremony and K-9 demonstration in the council chambers of the village hall.

The academy graduation recognized the 20th or "Porcelain" anniversary class of the department's academy program. The graduation ceremony was attended by both Mayor Thomas Hayes and Chief of Police Gerald Mourning and followed a demonstration of search and apprehension techniques by two of the police department's three K-9 officers with K-9 partners Marco and Max.

During the course of their academy training, class No. 20 students experienced hands-on training and practical insights into every facet of police work and services in Arlington Heights including classroom instruction on criminal law, forensic investigation, traffic stop procedures, crime prevention and shooting range qualification. In addition to classroom presentations, class No. 20 students were provided exclusive access to the police station, 911 Center and 3rd Circuit Court District in Rolling Meadows.

Applications for the spring session of the academy are currently being accepted and are available through the village of Arlington Heights website at www.vah.com or through the police department's Information Desk.

Questions concerning academy programs or the application process can be directed to Officer Robert Kostka in the Community Services Bureau at (847) 368-5390.
