Lawyer says no plea deal in Mellencamp son's case

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The defense attorney for the oldest son of rock star John Mellencamp says she is seeking a pretrial hearing but no agreement has been reached for him to plead guilty to charges that he badly beat a man.

Attorney Jennifer Lukemeyer said Tuesday a miscommunication with a Monroe County court led it to incorrectly schedule a change of plea hearing for 20-year-old Hud Mellencamp.

Mellencamp and his younger brother, Speck, have pleaded not guilty to felony battery charges from July 2013 for allegedly punching and kicking a 19-year-old man in Bloomington who they believed had hit Speck Mellencamp.

The Associated Press left a phone message for the Monroe County prosecutor handling the case.

A Monday pretrial conference for Speck Mellencamp was postponed until March.
