St. Charles awarded $100,000 DCEO grant

St. Charles, Ill. (Dec. 8, 2014) - The City of St. Charles has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

The DCEO administers and oversees nearly 10,000 grants each fiscal year and partners with businesses, local governments, nonprofit organizations, workers and families to enhance the state's economy.

The award will be used for the following projects:

Police Department

• Construction of a shelter at the practice gun firing range on Rt. 38 west of Peck Road.

• Purchase and installation of a remote video camera system for an area downtown (defined as First, Walnut, Third and Cedar streets).

Fire Department

• Purchase and installation of traffic pre-emption equipment and warning lighting serving exiting apparatus from Fire Station No. 3, 2901 Campton Hills Road.

"This grant represents a terrific opportunity for the city's public safety departments," said Mark Koenen, city administrator. "Thanks to the collaborative effort of our police, fire and finance staffs throughout the grant application process, we were successful in securing state funding for these important projects."
