Excess funds one day; a tax hike the next?

The District 214 school board is proposing a 2.4 percent tax levy hike for next year.

This fall the board approved unnecessary spending of $45 million that they had in excess. This is on top of the 55 percent reserve they hold for emergency situations.

I am offended and shocked that this proposal is even out there. How can we have an excess one minute and now a proposed tax hike? Where is the logic? Why is the money that we have already given them being spent frivolously and now they want to take even more?

Do the math. This is wrong. The D214 Board is meeting on December 11th and with little opposition they will probably wave their wands again and approve this increase. We cannot allow this to happen.

They have not approved any rebates back to the residents and now want to take even more. We get no rebate, they hold 55 percent in reserve and then increase the amount we give them and start the whole process over again.

This board needs to be made aware that this type of spending and increases to our tax bills is not acceptable. They seem to have no sense of responsibility to the residents whose money it is. Why can't this "excess" money that we have already paid out be used in the future to avoid tax increases? Attend the board meeting and tell them what you think. Where does this stop?
