One man dead, second injured in Aurora shooting

Aurora police are investigating a shooting late Saturday night that left one man dead and another injured.

Daniel W. Spencer, 46, died from multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head, police said Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call at about 11:35 p.m. on the 200 block of West Park Avenue, where they found Spencer sprawled on the sidewalk, police said. He was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, after receiving initial treatment at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, and pronounced dead about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The DuPage County coroner's office is conducting an autopsy.

At about midnight, police learned of a second gunshot victim, a 29-year-old Aurora man, who had been dropped off at Mercy. The man told police he was walking in the area of West Park and Lake Street when he was shot, possibly by someone in a dark-colored SUV.

He ran to the nearby home of a friend, who transported him to the hospital. He was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Police believe that Spencer and the 29-year-old man were shot at the same time, but a motive has not been determined.

Authorities said Spencer may have been shot by someone in an older, box-style silver SUV, similar to a Suzuki Sidekick that was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Police have no further suspect or vehicle information.
