Add resources, fight domestic violence
Add resources, fight domestic violence
It is imperative that local agencies develop assistance programs and increase domestic violence resources in response to the high demand for these services, the majority of which are for women and children. Violence against women is a problem that threatens women's long term physical, sexual and psychological well-being.
Given the increased use of current financial resources required to prevent, counsel and house victims of violence, increased funding is the only viable option to mitigate this level of undeserved abuse. Strategies for raising awareness and increasing community engagement need to be implemented to support shortfalls in public funding.
The demand for resources from local organizations such as Mutual Ground and the Community Crisis Center of Elgin are subject to budget restrictions and would greatly benefit from private sector donations and support.
Though the ultimate goal is a reduction in the levels of violence against women, and with respect to resources currently in place, we can no longer tacitly allow women to be the recipients of acts that in any way threaten their physical health and mental well-being.
