Report: Naperville native Stephens signs with Fire

Naperville native Michael Stephens is returning to Major League Soccer and will sign with the Chicago Fire, according to a report from Norway.

Stephens, 25, played last season for former Fire and U.S. coach Bob Bradley at Stabaek in Norway. He previously played in MLS for the Los Angeles Galaxy for four seasons, mostly as a substitute, appearing in at least 21 games each season and winning the club win two MLS Cups. Stephens, who played four years at UCLA, can play wide or centrally in midfield.

While Stephens played for the United States at the youth level, he hasn't joined the senior national team.

The Fire declined comment on Stephens. The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the signing locally.
