Martinez reunites with Maddon, Cubs
Dave Martinez, who played for both the Cubs and the White Sox in his 16-year playing career, will reunite with new Cubs manager Joe Maddon and serve as his bench coach.
The hiring prompted other coaching moves by the Cubs, who shifted Brandon Hyde to first base coach duties, with Henry Blanco taking over as the club's major league quality assurance coach. Doug Dascenzo, who had been named first base coach, will serve as outfield and baserunning coordinator with responsibilities in the major and minor leagues.
Here's a complete rundown of Maddon's coaching staff: Chris Bosio (pitching coach), Brandon Hyde (first base coach), Gary Jones (third base coach), John Mallee (hitting coach), Dave Martinez (bench coach), Lester Strode (bullpen coach), Mike Borzello (catching and strategy coach), Eric Hinske (assistant hitting coach), Henry Blanco (quality assurance coach) and Franklin Font (staff assistant).
Martinez, 50, was Maddon's bench coach in Tampa Bay for seven seasons. He interviewed for the head job in Tampa after Maddon left to join the Cubs.
