Illinois city may sell 2-story house for $100
DU QUOIN - A house in the southern Illinois city of Du Quoin (doo-KOYN') may soon be for sale for $100 if the buyer agrees to make renovations and live there seven years.
The City Council is set to decide Monday whether to put the home up for sale at the bargain price.
City attorney Aaron Atkins tells The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan the buyer must agree to make improvements to the roof, siding and exterior.
The 100-year-old two-story house is across the street from the city park. A staircase is made from quarter-sawn oak. The home has a fireplace, built-in china cabinet and hardwood floors.
The sale would be allowed under a homestead program that's part of the city's enterprise zone ordinance.
