Former Comcast employee pleads guilty to 2012 Wheeling home invasion

The second of two defendants charged with a 2012 Wheeling home invasion pleaded guilty to the charges, court records show.

Former Comcast employee Nicholas Puccio, who had a hearing scheduled Wednesday in Rolling Meadows, pleaded guilty in October to home invasion and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to court records.

He received credit for 774 days in custody and was ordered to pay $649 in fines.

Puccio's co-defendant Kevin Summers, 32, pleaded guilty in July to home invasion. Like Puccio, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Puccio used his knowledge as a cable company employee to gain entrance to the apartment of a 23-year-old woman who called Comcast to report an outage. Puccio, who was not a service technician, called the woman back, obtained her door code and scheduled an evening appointment for the next day, prosecutors said.

He arrived at her apartment dressed in a Comcast shirt but without tools. After fixing her TV, he turned up the volume and left the apartment, telling her he had to check on a hallway utility box. Within seconds, say authorities, Summers entered the apartment carrying a gun, grabbed the victim, threatened her life and demanded she turn over any valuables. When she was unable to do so, Summers fled, prosecutors said. The victim later identified Puccio and Summers as the two men who entered her apartment.
