Carpentersville man guilty of sex assault of child
A Carpentersville man is guilty of sexually assaulting and abusing a young child he knew, a Kane County jury decided Wednesday.
The jury took two and a half hours to find Sergio Tinajero, 54, guilty of four counts of predatory sexual assault of a child and six counts of aggravated sexual abuse, the Kane County state's attorney's office said in a news release.
Prosecutors presented evidence at trial that described the sexual contact that occurred at his home between 2009 and 2012 with a child under the age of 13, officials said - contact that included acts of sexual penetration.
The situation came to the attention of authorities after a teacher overheard the victim talking to a friend about the assaults and called the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.
Tinajero faces a prison sentence from 27 to 127 years and will have to register as a sex offender for life.
He had been free on a $15,000 bond, but bond was revoked upon conviction. He'll remain in the Kane County jail until sentencing, set for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 5.
