Cab crashes through Glendale Heights home, pinning resident to the bed

Police were still searching last night for a taxi driver who crashed his cab into a Glendale Heights home early Monday morning, injuring a homeowner who was asleep in his bed. Shawn Grisch, 53, of the 1800 block of Gregory Avenue, remains hospitalized with broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder and a cut on his spleen. Full story with pictures from inside.

Construction worker critically injured on Fox River barge

A construction worker was critically injured yesterday when he became pinned beneath a crane weighing thousands of pounds, police officials say. The accident happened underneath I-90 near Duncan Avenue. Full story.

Arlington Hts. authorizes design work on public garages

The Arlington Heights village board last night approved a $56,800 contract with Walker Restoration for designs on four public parking garages in Arlington Heights determined to need upgrades over the next few years. The design plans and eventual rehabilitation will eventually include the Evergreen Avenue underground garage, the Vail Avenue garage, the north garage and the municipal garage. Full story.

Objection filed to Naperville mayoral candidate Dubiel's residency

An objection has been filed with the Naperville city clerk's office to the mayoral candidacy of Matthew Dubiel on the grounds that he does not live in Naperville. Dubiel listed his unincorporated Will County address as 23156 Joyce Lane, Naperville, on papers last week and has not responded to questions of his residency. Full story.

Cook County files suit against Wells Fargo

Cook County officials filed suit against Wells Fargo alleging that the company's predatory and discriminatory lending practices led to the foreclosure crisis in Cook County and elsewhere. Full story.

Fans thank George W. Bush for service at signing

Former President George W. Bush greeted roughly 1,200 fans yesterday at a book signing at Anderson's Bookshop in downtown Naperville. Bush held a baby or two and distributed signed copies of his new book "41: A Portrait of My Father." He was characterized as "very nice and happy." Full story.

Batavia discusses leaf removal, drainage costs

The Batavia City Council met last night and discussed leaf removal and drainage, as well as who should pay for it. The board rejected a $1-per-month increase for brush and leaf pickup, hired a consultant to study implementing a stormwater utility, discussed taxing some neighborhoods to maintain their stormwater detention facilities, and voted on the 2015 budget. Traffic

Long-term road construction continues on Barrington Road between Schaumburg Road and Lake Street, Sigalert.com is reporting. The roadwork is in Hanover Park, Streamwood and Schaumburg. Pavement repair work will cause restrictions in both directions. The work is expected to last through June 30. More traffic.

Study: Prep football alters brains even without concussions

A recent study of several high school football players, none of whom sustained a concussion throughout the season, showed statistically significant abnormalities in white matter in specific parts of the brain from taking typical hits all season long. Full story.
