Police investigate string of Arlington Heights burglaries

Arlington Heights police are investigating a rash of home break-ins on the village's north side last week in which burglars stole more than $5,000 of electronics from five homes and entered, or tried to enter, at least two others.

The string of burglaries occurred between the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 26 through the afternoon or evening of Sunday, Nov. 30, police said. Most occurred in the 4100 and 4200 block of North Bloomington Avenue, but others were reported on the nearby 4200 block of Mallard Lane and 4000 block of Newport Lane.

Among the items stolen were a Dell laptop computer valued at $1,000, three Canon cameras valued at $1,350, two Sony PlayStation video game consoles and several games valued at $1,150, and a Samsung Galaxy Avant cellphone valued at $736.

Police said the burglar or burglars entered through unlocked sliding glass patio doors in most of the break-ins.

A suspect spotted in connection with one of the burglaries was described as a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt covering his head and face along with an outer black cargo jacket. A second suspect was heard but not seen, police said.
