The former press secretary for one-term 8th District U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh ignited a firestorm this weekend when she criticized President Barack Obama's teenage daughters in a Facebook post that touched a nerve even for Americans accustomed to political mudslinging. Police believe Palatine stabbing unrelated to similar attacks

Authorities believe the stabbing of a 33-year-old woman in a forest preserve near Palatine is not connected to attacks on other women along Northwest suburban jogging trails over the past 14 months. Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff's office, said Sunday there is no new information regarding Saturday's attack in the Deer Grove East forest preserve and no one is in custody, but the investigation is ongoing. Waubonsie cafeteria manager charged with stealing more than $50,000

The cafeteria manager at Waubonsie Valley High School appeared before a DuPage County judge Sunday facing allegations she stole more than $50,000 from the Aurora school. According to county prosecutors, Kristy Davis, 48, of Naperville stole cash and checks that she was supposed to deposit in the school district's account between Oct. 3, 2013 and May 23, 2014. She would then try to cover her tracks by changing the amount of money on a later check to make up for the missing cash, according to the prosecutor's office. Full story.

Butler, Bulls close Circus Trip with win over Nets

The Bulls dominated Garnett's Brooklyn Nets 102-84 yesterday at the Barclays Center, but the highlight from the game that has received the most attention featured no in-game action: Kevin Garnett pretending to bite Joakim Noah's hand as the two jockeyed for position. After the game, Garnett told reporters he wasn't trying to bite Noah. "I know how to bite somebody," Garnett said in the Nets' locker room. "Obviously I was messing around in that moment. If I wanted to bite him, I'd have just … shout out to Mike Tyson." Full story.

Illini: Beckman will return as football coach

After a season of speculation about whether he would lose his job, Illinois coach Tim Beckman will be back for 2015, athletic director Mike Thomas said yesterday. Beckman apparently secured his job with a 47-33 victory at Northwestern on Saturday and three wins in the team's final five games. That made the Illini (6-6, 3-5 Big Ten) bowl eligible in Beckman's third season and apparently signified the kind of progress Thomas said he needed to see in the football program. Full story.
