$1 million bail for St. Charles man charged in fatal crash

A St. Charles man charged in a crash that killed a 65-year-old woman is being held in Kane County jail on $1 million bail, officials said.

Joshua Spudich, 23, of the 400 block of South Second Street, was charged Friday with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of driving under the influence of drugs, one count of driving with a revoked driver's license and one count of improper lane usage, according to a police news release.

Officials say Spudich was driving south on Second Street in St. Charles around 2 p.m. Friday when he drifted across the centerline and hit head-on a Toyota Corolla driven by Susan Gorecki, also of St. Charles.

Gorecki was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she died from her injuries, St. Charles police said.

Spudich was treated and released for minor injuries at Delnor Hospital.

According to court records, Spudich pleaded guilty to a driving under the influence charge on June 16, 2011. He pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor in December 2010.

Kane County court records also state that Spudich pleaded guilty to battery in 2011. He was charged with armed robbery, but that was later reduced to battery.
