Snowfall causes road troubles in northern Indiana

ELKART, Ind. - Light snowfall caused some slick roadways in northern Indiana, including a stretch of highway where several vehicles crashed.

Elkhart County police tells WNDU-TV that nine vehicles lost control on black ice Thursday night in a 500-yard stretch of the U.S. 20 bypass near the city of Elkhart. No serious injuries were reported.

The Elkhart Truth reports six people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a head-on crash a few miles further east on U.S. 20, while another person was flown by helicopter to a hospital after a crash on a county road near Goshen.

The National Weather Service reports about 4 inches of snowfall Thursday in the area east of South Bend.
