Judge: Don't rip up Lucas Museum site overnight

A federal judge in Chicago has ordered the city not to alter the site of the proposed George Lucas Museum until it receives a court order.

Friends of the Park filed a lawsuit this month asking the judge to stop construction on two parking lots south of Soldier Field.

U.S. District Judge John Darrah asked city lawyers Tuesday to guarantee they wouldn't rip into the land - the way Mayor Richard M. Daley did during the night when he replaced the former lakefront airport Meigs Field. Lawyers would not offer solid guarantees.

Critics say they're not opposed to the filmmaker's state-of-the-art museum, but to its location along Lake Michigan.

The lawsuit claims the land is former lake area, was filled in and is owned by the state of Illinois.
