Tip, 'thank you' note lead to drug charges against man

A confidential tip and a “thank you” note helped lead to the arrest of a North Aurora man on ecstasy and marijuana charges, according to Kane County court records.

Nathan T. Wolff, 30, of the 600 block of Chesterfield Lane, faces up anywhere from probation to 15 years in prison if convicted of the most severe charge of possession of between five and 15 grams of ecstasy, records show.

Wolff was arrested after authorities obtained a search warrant for his residence.

According to sworn affidavit used to obtain the warrant, authorities received a confidential tip that Wolff was selling marijuana and searched through four of Wolff's garbage bags Nov. 7.

The search turned up marijuana stems, empty cigarillo packages and wrappers containing suspected marijuana and a handwritten note that said, “Thank you for my drugs,” according to the affidavit.

After the warrant was executed Nov. 13, police seized 40 grams of marijuana, eight grams of marijuana seeds, nine grams of ecstasy, three scales, $4,420 in cash, pipes and several plastic food saver bags, according to court records.

Wolff was arrested Friday and has been released from the Kane County jail after posting $5,000 bond, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

Wolff's next court date was not immediately available.

His only previous arrest in Kane County was in May 2007 on charges of transportation of open alcohol, records show.
