Music notes: Slipknot, Korn bring the metal to Rosemont
Nu-metal returns
If you're looking for a post-Turkey Day jolt, consider the "Prepare For Hell" tour, which makes a stop in Rosemont this weekend. The headliner is Slipknot, a mask-and-costume-wearing band that emerged from Iowa in the late-1990s and became part of the "nu-metal" movement. The group is touring behind "The Gray Chapter," which came out in October. Fellow nu-metal band Korn and opening act King 810 will also perform.
7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road, Rosemont. Tickets start at $39.50. Go to ticketmaster.com.
Alt-country hero
Singer-songwriter-musician Lydia Loveless landed like a hand grenade when her second album, "Indestructible Machine," arrived in 2011 on the local Bloodshot Records label. Her next full-length, "Somewhere Else," added subtlety and nuance to Loveless' punk-country attack and her frank, witty lyrics. Loveless performs this weekend in the city.
9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago. $15. Go to lh-st.com.
Zep tribute
Are you a big Led Zeppelin fan? Relive your rock 'n' roll memories by checking out renowned Zeppelin tribute band Kashmir this weekend in the suburbs. This could be your stairway to heaven!
9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Austin's Fuel Room, 481 Peterson, Libertyville. $8. Go to fuelroom.com.
