Great sense of pride at Glenbard West

As a student at Glenbard West, I have come to learn that with pride in one's school comes a new sense of community and appreciation for the support from both fellow students and Glen Ellyn residents alike. On Saturday, Nov. 22, I witnessed one of the greatest acts of community and support I have ever seen.

It was Glenbard West's last playoff game before the big state game, and the tensions were high. As the game progressed I couldn't help but notice that almost every single spot in the bleachers was taken up by cheering fans. The game was a tough one and the players left it all out on the field. The entire time, the deafening sounds of cheering parents, teachers, students, and faculty were overwhelming. To see such a large community come out on a cold Saturday afternoon to cheer on the Hitters, even people who didn't have students at Glenbard West, was really quite amazing to see.

I will never forget the emotional end of that game. Even though we lost, I was amazed by how the community was able to come together and encourage and comfort the players. As they shook the hands of the other team after the game was over, the student section was filled with an eerie silence. It was an unspoken tribute to the hard work and dedication that our players put in. I think that it is incredible that, win or lose, Glen Ellyn was able to unite for one afternoon for a football game that was able to bring together the community not only physically, but emotionally as well.
