Mixed message in preservation decree

How wonderful that Libertyville powers that be have decided that historical preservation is important. The formation of a committee to encourage such preservation is an important lesson for the young people of Libertyville. That the preservation will probably be of such vital buildings as decrepit old homes is interesting, and the focus on structures within the downtown area is not at all self-serving with an eye toward tourism.

But how ironic that this decree should come on the eve of the demolition of the Brainerd Building, a truly historic building on the edge of downtown that could have become a true point of pride for the village, as well as a useful, positive place for the greater GLMV area.

Hmmm. There's truly a lesson for the youth: preserve the past, unless it costs too much.
