Suljic, Harper defeat Truman
The Harper College men's basketball team won't play another home game for 26 days.
They way they played Thursday night, they'll be eager to return as the Hawks handled visiting Truman College 78-66 in nonconference play.
"That was a big (win) for us" said first-year coach Harper coach Justin Welke, who used a different starting lineup against Truman (0-7).
Usual leading scorers Davian Benton, Robert Hudson and Admir Suljic came off the bench.
Suljic finished with 25 points with 4-for-5 3-point shooting, and Hudson ended up with 12.
Harper (3-5) just had too much firepower as Randy Hewitt (9 points) made three 3-pointers and Jalon Roundy, who was a starter, finished with 11 points.
It helped that Truman, led by 17 points from Ronald Cooper, shot 11-for-22 from the free throw line.
Welke liked the contribution he got from Roundy, who was 2-for-3 from 3-point range.
"He's logging big minutes," Welke said "He's definitely grown a lot."
Jamal Sherman (Maine West) had 7 points for the Hawks.
