Report: Lake County Sheriff official pulls over school bus to give son lunch

A Lake County Sheriff's Office lieutenant is under investigation for making a traffic stop on a Johnsburg High School bus late last week in order to deliver lunch to his son, authorities said.

Lt. Brian Keller was driving an unmarked Lake County police squad car when he stopped the school bus at McCullom Lake and Ringwood roads in Johnsburg about 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose confirmed Tuesday.

Rose also confirmed that incident reports show Keller activated his emergency lights outside of the Lake County jurisdiction to stop the bus.

Rose said the sheriff's office has been investigating since receiving the complaint last week. He added “it would be inappropriate to comment on the allegations until the internal investigation is completed.”

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said he could not comment on the investigation, except to say there would be a disciplinary hearing “soon.”

This is the second time in recent months Keller has been investigated at the sheriff's office. Rose confirmed Keller, who previously was a department chief, was “reassigned to the rank of lieutenant based on prior inappropriate behavior and job performance.”

Keller currently works in court security at the Lake County courthouse.

Johnsburg Police officials did not return phone calls Tuesday for comment.
