Bears' Trestman, Marshall approaching Sunday as just another game

Marc Trestman downplayed this week's obvious angle of his team facing its former coach Lovie Smith, who comes to Soldier Field on Sunday with his 2-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad.

But Trestman said it would be addressed internally.

"I think we're going to talk to our team truthfully about every aspect of this game and making sure that we go in with our eyes wide open, whatever that might be," Trestman said.

The current Bears coach was asked if he got any sense of the former Bears' coach from those players who played for him.

"I'm not going to go through a dissertation like that," Trestman said. "The thing I can tell you about Lovie is that I've watched him for years and played against him for years, and I know him as a person, and I have tremendous respect for him as a person in all areas.

"That's the only thing I can speak of at this point, and I truly mean that."

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall's first season with the Bears (2012) was Smith's last, but he wouldn't take the bait either.

"I won't get into that," Marshall said. "I won't get into it throughout this week. I won't get into it with you right now. It's just another Sunday."

Friendly foe:

Bucs quarterback Josh McCown had the best season of his 12-year career in 2013 as a Bear, stepping in when Jay Cutler was injured and posting a 109.0 passer rating with 13 touchdown passes and just 1 interception.

His reward was a $10 million, two-year deal offer from the Bucs in free agency, which the Bears decided they couldn't afford to match.

Bears coach Marc Trestman declined to elaborate on what he misses about McCown, one of the more popular Bears in recent years inside and outside Halas Hall.

"I don't know if I'm going there," Trestman said. "We all have our own relationships with Josh, and I'd rather keep it at that.

"I just stand by what I said when Josh left here - we were happy for him and his opportunity to continue his journey, and I don't think anyone here feels any differently about that now.

"The fact of the matter is we're not playing (just) Josh on Sunday. We're playing the Tampa Bay Bucs. We're playing the whole team, and we've got to get focused on that."

Tweet nothings:

Marc Trestman said last week he would talk to Brandon Marshall about the wide receiver's Twitter feud with a Lions fan that came during preparation for the Vikings game. Did he?

"I think that's an issue between Brandon and I," Trestman said, "and I'm going to leave it at that."

Trestman was asked if the situation created a distraction.

"I didn't have any sense of anything other than Brandon working hard in practice," the coach said. "I think that very evidently carried over into the game."

Marshall had TD catches of 44 and 4 yards among his 7 receptions for 90 yards.

By the numbers:

Matt Forte's 175 yards from scrimmage (117 rushing, 58 receiving) Sunday were a season high and tied for the sixth highest of his seven-year career.

Forte already has six games this season of 150 or more yards from scrimmage, tying his personal best set in 2011.

In franchise history, only Walter Payton (7) had more games with 150 or more yards from scrimmage in a season (1977).
