Kumerow, Moore key contributors for No. 1 Whitewater

Two Fox Valley area graduates are playing key roles on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team.

Whitewater is ranked No. 1 in the country in NCAA Division III and brings an undefeated 9-0 record into Saturday's regular-season finale at UW-River Falls.

South Elgin graduate Jake Kumerow is the team's leading receiver. In seven games, he has 44 catches for 707 yards and a team-high 10 touchdowns. He's averaging 16.1 yards per catch and 101 receiving yards per game. His long catch of the season is 44 yards.

Elgin High alum Dennis Moore is the team's leading rusher. Moore has played in all nine games and has 87 rushes for 593 yards (6.8 yards per carry). He's scored 2 touchdowns and has a long rush of 39 yards this season.

Locals at UW-Platteville: There also is a strong local presence on the UW-Platteville football team.

Bartlett graduate Anthony Puccini has been a workhorse in the Platteville backfield this season. He's run the ball 216 times for 1,105 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and 9 touchdowns. He's averaging 123 rushing yards a game and has a long run this season of 30 yards.

Larkin product Trevor Whitehead is the team's leading receiver. Whitehead has 70 receptions for 673 yards and 6 touchdowns. He's averaging 9.6 yards per catch and 75 receiving yards per game. His longest reception this season is 49 yards.

Also on the team is Larkin graduate Bryan Whitehead who has 19 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery playing in the Platteville secondary.

Platteville brings a 7-2 record into its regular-season finale Saturday against UW-Oshkosh.

Cooper at Ole Miss: Crystal Lake South graduate Fahn Cooper is the starting left tackle on the Ole Miss football team. The 6-5, 312-pound Cooper started his college career at Bowling Green where he started all 13 games at left tackle during his redshirt freshman year in 2012.

He then moved on to College of DuPage last year where he was a second-team NJCAA All-America selection and was rated a four-star offensive tackle prospect by ESPN.com and 247Sports.com.

Cooper is now part of an Ole Miss team that is 8-2 this season. Ole Miss returns to action Nov. 22 against Arkansas and wraps up the regular season a week later against No. 1 Mississippi State.

Kofie at Western Michigan: Former Larkin girls volleyball standout Olivia Kofie is seeing significant playing time as a freshman on the Western Michigan University women's team.

Through Thursday, Kofie had played in 21 matches (15 starts) and was averaging 2.05 kills per set. She also had 49 total blocks, 42 digs and 8 aces for a Broncos team that sported a 16-12 record.

Kofie had 15 kills and 19.5 points in an August match against Oakland and also hit .455 with 11 kills on 20 swings (2 errors) in a contest against IPFW in October.

Mooney at Colgate: Jacobs football alum Bret Mooney is a freshman quarterback on the Colgate football team. To start the week, Mooney had played in four games and was 39-for-92 for 468 yards passing and 1 touchdown. He also ran the ball 48 times for 55 yards and had 1 rushing touchdown. Mooney went 15-for-31 for 225 yards in a game against Yale.

O'Reilly sisters update: Burlington Central alums Kaitlyn and Allison O'Reilly are both playing volleyball at the collegiate level.

Kaitlyn, who was part of Central's state runner-up team in 2008, is a junior setter on the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville team. Through Thursday, she had played in 55 sets and had 186 assists, 45 digs and 12 aces. The business management major is part of an Edwardsville team that was 14-16 through its first 30 matches.

Allison O'Reilly is a 5-4 freshman defensive specialist on the UIC women's team. Through Thursday, Allison had played in 107 sets and had 220 digs and 18 aces for a Flames team that was 13-15 overall and 7-6 in Horizon League action. A two-time all-state honorable-mention pick and the Central single-season record holder for dings, O'Reilly is majoring in biological sciences.

McGlone at Winona State: Streamwood product Hannah McGlone is a freshman forward on the Winona State women's basketball team.

In an exhibition game against Wisconsin-Superior, McGlone had 10 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

In a 64-29 exhibition loss to Iowa State, McGlone had 6 points and 9 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
