Jacobs' Van Vlierbergen a Wendy's Heisman finalist

Jacobs running standout and recent Michigan recruit Lauren Van Vlierbergen has been named the female Illinois state winner in the 2014 Wendy's High School Heisman Program and is now one of 12 national finalists for the award.

The Wendy's award program recognizes outstanding high-school seniors nationwide who excel in athletics, academics and community leadership.

The Michigan-bound Van Vlierbergen, who recently took second in the Class 3A state cross-country finals in Peoria, was one of 20 Illinois state finalists.

Van Vlierbergen and Freeport Aquin's Aiden Chang moved on to the next round of the program for the chance to be one of 12 national finalists.

Van Vlierbergen is now invited to Heisman Weekend in New York City the weekend of Dec. 12-13, where two national winners will be announced.
