Police: Man charged in Chicago officer shooting
A Riverdale man has been charged with shooting an off-duty Chicago police officer and her daughter during a domestic dispute.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports police say 28-year-old Anthony Gates was charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Police say Gates is the daughter's boyfriend and he opened fire during a dispute at her home in the city's South Shore neighborhood Tuesday.
Authorities say 49-year-old Officer Samella Ramirez was critically shot in the face, neck and forearms. She was hospitalized and her condition was unclear early Thursday. Police say Gates shot her 21-year-old daughter in the leg.
Ramirez is a 24-year veteran of the department.
It wasn't immediately clear if Gates has an attorney.
