3 hurt, 1 seriously, in Antioch crash
Three people were hospitalized after a serious crash in Antioch on Thursday afternoon, including one person who had to be taken by helicopter with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Lake County sheriff's deputies were called to a two-vehicle crash on Route 173 near Orchard in Antioch around 3:50 p.m., Sgt. Scot Kurek said.
So far, the investigation shows a black Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling east on Route 173 when, for an unknown reason, swerved into westbound traffic and hit a gray Chevrolet minivan, Kurek said.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was taken by Flight for Life helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries, he said. As of Thursday night, the driver was in critical condition.
The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Kurek said traffic was shut down for several hours, causing extra backups during rush hour. Police are still investigating the crash; no citations have been issued.
