Kankakee man held on $1M bond in fatal shooting

KANKAKEE - A judge has set bond at $1 million for a Kankakee man accused of fatally shooting a 20-year-old man after an argument.

The (Kankakee) Daily Journal reports 29-year-old Edgar Watkins was charged in Kankakee County court this week in the killing of Johan Rowe in October.

Prosecutors say Watkins was with a group of people congregating near a park when he started talking with Rowe. They say Rowe later left and Watkins followed before shooting him.

Watkins tells investigators he didn't shoot Rowe but did carry a handgun. He tells police someone else killed Rowe in a drive-by shooting.

Prosecutors say the two men had gotten into another argument 10 days earlier, when Watkins also pulled out a gun.

Online court records didn't indicate an attorney.
