Wire maker plans northern Indiana expansion

BREMEN, Ind. - A wire and cable manufacturer says it will expand its northern Indiana operations and add perhaps 100 workers in the next couple years.

Georgia-based Southwire Co. says it will invest $2.1 million to buy and equip a new 48,000 square-foot plant in Bremen. The plant will allow the company to move manufacturing capacity for its original equipment manufacturer and industrial divisions to the Marshall County town about 15 miles south of South Bend.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $750,000 in conditional tax credits and $200,000 in training grants for the expansion.

Southwire currently has 310 full-time workers in Indiana. It makes wire and cable used in electricity transmission and distribution.
