Fire at Island Lake Sikh mission under investigation

A fire Tuesday night at the Guru Nanak Sikh Mission of America in Island Lake is under investigation, authorities said.

The fire at the house of worship was a two-alarm fire, Wauconda Fire District Lt. Vince Clemens said.

There are no known injuries, he said.

Fire investigators are expected to return to the building this morning to determine the cause of the blaze that devastated the temple, ABC 7 Chicago is reporting.

ABC 7 Chicago reports Wauconda firefighters found smoke and flames in the lower level of the building when they arrived at the scene just before 8:30 p.m.

The fire spread quickly through the walls and floors above, ABC 7 Chicago reports, making it difficult for crews to put out. More than a dozen departments from nearby departments assisted to extinguish the flames.

No one was inside at the time of the fire, ABC 7 Chicago.
