Police: Illinois sex offender molests girl

URBANA - Champaign County authorities have arrested a registered sex offender from Mahomet who they say molested a girl under the age of 13.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports a judge ordered the 33-year-old man held on $500,000 bond. Authorities are expected to formally charge him Monday with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Sheriff's Sgt. Tony Shaw says the girl told her mother about inappropriate contact she had with the man, who had a position of authority over her. He says sheriff's investigators and a forensic interviewer at the Child Advocacy center in Urbana interviewed her and determined her statements about what had happened were consistent.

The man pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 2003 in Champaign County.
