Suspect arrested in Beach Park hit-and-run that injured skateboarder

Lake County Sheriff's police say they've caught the driver in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night that injured a teenager skateboarding in Beach Park.

Authorities said investigators responding to an anonymous tip located what they believe to be the vehicle in the 10000 block of Beach Road in Beach Park, as well as the suspect's girlfriend.

The suspected driver, Epifanio Moya, 28, of the 1200 block of 34th Street in Zion, subsequently turned himself into police at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff's department. He later was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, a Class 4 felony, failing to report an injury accident, also a Class 4 felony, and driving with a suspended license, a Class A misdemeanor, officials said.

He was transported to the Lake County jail, where he will remain overnight pending a court appearance Monday morning. The most serious charges against him are punishable by a maximum one to three years in prison.

The charges allege Moya was behind the wheel of a 2008 Kia Sedona about 7:20 p.m. Saturday when it struck a 16-year-old skateboarding along Sheridan Road near Chaney Road in Beach Park. Police said the vehicle's driver then fled the scene northbound on Sheridan Road.

The teen, Conner L. Dixon, was flown by Flight For Life to Advocate Luther General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of his injuries. He was released Sunday, sheriff's police said.

Authorities initially identified the teen as Conner L. Vixon, but corrected his last name to Dixon Sunday evening.
