Grayslake museum program:

The Grayslake Historical Society will host a program on Wednesday, Nov. 12, that will feature letters written by Grayslake men while they served during World War I. The free program, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be in the Community Room of the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, 164 Hawley St. Refreshments will be served. Many Grayslake men served during World War I. They wrote letters home telling of military life, drills, food, scenery, trenches, ship life, people, organizations, concern for people at home, desire to be home for Christmas, sickness, wounds and weather. The letters were originally published in the Grayslake Times. Volunteers have transcribed more than 50 of these letters. Information in the letters has been used to tell the story of Grayslake in the Great War, which is the basis of the museum's World War I exhibit. Research was also done about the lives of the letterwriters after they returned home. At the meeting, several letters will be read along with the biographies of the men who wrote them.
