Disagree with writer on Durbin, Obama

I am replying to Roland Ley's letter, in which he listed reasons why "I and most Illinois and American citizens are getting more fed up and angry every day about the way Senator Dick Durbin and President Obama are destroying our country." I strongly disagree.

Mr. Ley denies that people would save a lot of money with Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act). I found evidence that the law reduces the growth in health care spending by tens of billions each year, reduced health insurance costs for many Americans and is estimated to have a net decrease of the debt.

Mr. Ley also wrote that it is the Senate that refused to take action on the many bills passed by the House. If that includes John Boehner's claim that the House has passed 30 jobs bills that are sitting in the Senate, it's not true. There is evidence from "Crooks and Liars" explaining why the 27 bills (not 30) are not jobs bills.

Actually, the House Republicans have done more to block legislation than the Democrats. On inauguration day, 2009, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Newt Gingrich, Republican strategist Frank Luntz and others met and decided to "repeatedly block Obama over the coming four years" in order to make him a one-term president. That is both upsetting and shameful!

I'm not sure where Mr. Ley got his information, although I have an idea that it came from Fox News. If so, I suggest that he check his sources more carefully. A a fact-checking site found that Fox News only tells the truth 18 percent of the time.
