Schneider retaining Cook County Board seat

Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider sailed to re-election in a lopsided race to represent District 15, according to unofficial results.

With 180 out of 186 precincts reporting, Schneider, a Bartlett Republican, had 37,850 votes, while his Democratic challenger Michael Urban received 26,001.

Schneider touted his role in passing ethics reform and setting up an independent board overseeing the county's hospital system since he was first elected to the board in 2006.

Urban, of Elk Grove Village, condemned overcrowding in the Cook County Jail in his bid for first-time political office.

The district includes parts of Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates.
